Don’t Want Summer to End? Here Are 3 Tips to Keep Your Pool Warmer As the Fall Season Approaches

We all would like to be able to spend as much time as possible in our pool, but with the fall approaching, temperatures are soon going to drop. Here are a few ways to keep the summer rolling into the fall months without breaking the bank.

  1. Use a Solar Blanket

This is something that every pool owner should own and know how to use. A solar blanket’s main job is to retain heat, and they do that very well. A solar blanket can also help raise the water temperature a certain amount. While they aren’t going to be able to provide heat increases like a gas heater could, they do provide excellent heat retention and can raise the temperature of your pool by as much as 10 degrees.

Solar covers do even more than just retain heat, they save you money and energy. Evaporation is the main cause of heat loss in a pool; about 70% of your pools heat loss coming from evaporating water. Solar covers can decrease evaporation by up to 50%.  This reduces the need for refilling your pool and the additional expense of added chemicals.

  1. Install Wind Blocks

Trees, hedges or solid fences and structures provide a good wind block to help prevent the loss of heat. Prevailing winds are a huge contributor to heat loss. So, if you have prevailing winds, try blocking at least one side of the pool to reduce the amount of wind at the pool surface level. Planting a row of hedges and keeping a solar cover on overnight to retain the heat, should help maintain higher water temperatures.

  1. Invest in a Solar Heater

Solar Heaters are one of the most efficient methods of pool heating, both in cost and energy efficiency. They are best suited for areas that receive a large amount of sunshine. They are also extremely versatile, capable of being installed nearly anywhere around your pool area. Solar Heaters are capable of increasing pool temperatures by as much as 20 degrees.

Any of these options or even a combination of them all will help you save money and extend your pool season.
